Why is the first part of a run the hardest?

I slogged through the first 10 minutes today. I had no get up and go at all. And then the negative thoughts crept it–just general bitchiness about getting up early, the crowd at the lake on the weekends, and disappointment that I haven’t magically gotten into amazing shape in just seven weeks.

Eventually, Pat Benatar’s Greatest Hits and Mother Nature drew me out of my funk. And at the 20 minute mark I picked up my pace. There I was at the end of my run, ready to keep going with more energy mentally and physically than when I arrived. Strange how that works.
